En 2004 et 2005, une étude menée par le REPAMO (Réseau de Pathologie des Mollusques) a montré que des parasites du genre Perkinsus étaient présentas au sein des principaux domaines français de production de palourdes: La Mer Méditerranée, l'Océan Atlantique et la Manche avec une forte prévalence amis aucun cas de mortalités associées. Cependant, ces résultats doivent être complétés par des analyses moléculaires plus spécifiques de façon à déterminer la ou les espèces de Perkinsus détectés. D'autre, part, l'étude a montré que différents facteurs environnementaux (température, salinité...) liés à la répartition géographique influencent le développement de parasite. Three mollusc species are cultured commercially in Australian tropical and warm temperate waters: the Sydney rock oyster Saccostrea commercialis , the pearl rock oyster is susceptible to two protozoans: Marteilia sydneyi , which is the cause of QX Disease and infects oysters during the summer; and Mikrocytos roughleyi which is associated with winter mortality. Diverse molecular signatures for ribosomally 'active' Perkinsea in marine sediments ArchiMer

Background: Perkinsea are a parasitic lineage within the eukaryotic superphylum Alveolata. Recent studies making use of environmental small sub-unit ribosomal RNA gene (SSU rDNA) sequencing methodologies have detected a significant diversity and abundance of Perkinsea-like phylotypes in freshwater environments. In contrast only a few Perkinsea environmental sequences have been retrieved from marine samples and only two groups of Perkinsea have been cultured and morphologically described and these are parasites of marine molluscs or marine protists. These two marine groups form separate and distantly related phylogenetic clusters, composed of closely related lineages on SSU rDNA trees. Asari (= Manila) clam, Ruditapes philippinarum, is the second bivalve mollusc in terms of production in the world and, in many coastal areas, can beget important socio-economic issues. In Europe, this species was introduced after 1973. In Arcachon Bay, after a decade of aquaculture attempt, Asari clam rapidly constituted neo-naturalized population which is now fished. However, recent studies emphasized the decline of population and individual performances. In the framework of a national project (REPAMEP), some elements of fitness, stressors and responses in Arcachon bay were measured and compared to international data (41 publications, 9 countries).
